George Siemens dzisiaj rozpoczął moderowanie dyskusji na liście dyskusyjnej IT Forum. Kanwą do dyskusji jest jego artykuł “Learning and Knowing in Networks: Changing Roles for Educators and Designers” (pdf). Świetny powód, żeby tę listę zasubskrybować (przynajmniej na te parę dni).
George Siemens jest twórcą konektywizmu, sieciowej teorii uczenia się (przy czym słowo “sieciowy” nie oznacza tu tylko, a nawet nie przede wszystkim, “internetowy”; Siemens koncentruje się raczej na sieciach społecznych, wprawdzie wykorzystujących nowoczesne zdobycze techniki, ale jednak społecznych). Czy się z jego teorią zgadzamy, czy nie, czy w ogóle będziemy ją uważać za odrębną teorię uczenia się, czy nie – George Siemens na pewno jest osobą, z którą warto podyskutować 
Streszczenie artykułu będącego podstawą dyskusji na IT Forum:
Current developments with technology and social software are significantly altering a) how learners access information and knowledge, b) how learners dialogue with the instructor and each other. Both of these domains (access and discussion) have previously been largely under the control of the teacher or instructor. Classroom walls are increasingly permeable. Google Scholar, Scopus, and open access journals offer increased academic resources to extend more informal approaches such as regular internet search and Wikipedia. Social software (blogs, wikis, social bookmarking, instant messaging, Skype, Ning) provide increased opportunities for learners to create, dialogue about, and disseminate information. But what becomes of the teacher? How do the practices of the educator change in networked environments, where information is readily accessible? How do we design learning when learners may adopt multiple paths and approaches to content and curriculum? How can we achieve centralized learning aims in decentralized environments? This paper will explore the shifting role of educators in networked learning, with particular emphasis on “curatorial teaching” and assisting learners in forming diverse personal learning networks for deep understanding of complex fields.
